4 . 2 . 2  everyone , everybody , everything .

 

All of these form     s take singular verbs . the first two mean all people or all the people while the last one

 

Mean all things or all the things .

 

 

e.g.

 

every body admired him .

 

you mustn t trust everyone you meet .

 

the thieves broke into the house and stole everything .

 

everything in this shop is for sale .

 

 

4.2.3  either , neither

 

Both  are used as adjectives or pronouns and are to be followed by singular verbs . either means

 

any one of two persons or things while neither means none of two persons or things . it ( neither ) has to be followed by an aggirmative  and gives the same meaning as either when used with a negative verb .

 

 

e.g.

 

there is garage on either side of the road . ( adj.)

 

either one will suit me . (adj.)

 

I don’t want either ( of them ) . (pron.) .

 

Either (of them ) will be enough . (pron.)

 

Neither book is good enough . ( adj.) .

 

Neither of the suggestions was acceptable ; therefore I accepted neither . (pron.).

 

 

4.3 Quantitative Adjectives and pronouns ;                                                                                    

 

 These include the following ;

 

A\an , one , some , any , no , none , a little , a few , many , much , lots of , a lot of , and the numerals . they may be used as adjectives only such as a and no , pronouns only such as none . or

 

As both Adjectives and pronouns  such as some ,    any ….ets. Except for the numerals  which will be discussed later in this book , these forms are dealt with in related pairs .  

 

 

1.3.3           no, none

 

no is an adjective ; there  fore , it is always used before nouns.

 

It shows that the thing  \  pers  on named does not exist .none ,

 

On the other hand ,is a pronoun ;there for ,it is never used

 

Before a noun . it means not (even) one"

 

e.g.

 

there is no water in the stream.

 

I have some friends in London but you have none.

 

no person in his right state of mind would believe this.

 

None of my friends smoke  (s).

 

 

Note: though it is common to use a singular  verb after

 

Noun phrase above  on the grounds that the verb  should

 

Agree with none, it is also possible to use a plural verb which

 

Would agree with the noun in the phrase , friends in the phrase above

 

1.3.4           a little ,a few

 

these forms refer to small quantities and numbers

 

respectively .a little is used before uncountable nouns while

 

is used before plurals .
